Based on the south east coast of England, we are a family-owned company with an amazing, passionate team. Our inspiration is varied and comes from our experiences, things we admire, our love of music, and walks along the beach in Southend.
Our founder, Alan O’Rourke, grew up playing guitar and surrounded by hi-fi equipment through his dad’s work in the industry. So it’s not entirely surprising that he went on to found his own audio company.

The story begins in 1988. Bent Holter, a student at the Technical University in Trondheim (NTNU) decided to do a thesis under the original design of the transistor used in amplifiers, that would cure the problems of traditional hi-fi systems. Enemy number one was distortion. Holter somehow could not accept the fact that when we supply a simple signal to an amplifier, the output reproduces that signal plus something else; distortion produced by the electronics.

Originally founded in the 1960's by Spencer and Dorothy Hughes, Spendor grew out of the expertise gained in the BBC's sound engineering department. The original BC1 design became the studio monitor of choice and soon this and other designs were to be developed for the consumer market.

Mission Electronics was founded in 1977 by Farad Azima. Mission became a very popular hi-fi brand over the years and has earned an enviable reputation for the design and manufacture of some of the world’s finest and technologically innovative hi fi products. The brand continued to deliver outstanding performance throughout the 1980s and 1990s, producing many “firsts” and constantly breaking through technological barriers. Currently Mission’s team of engineering experts is headed by award-winning audio designer Peter Comeau whose history with the Mission brand stems from his being Mission’s Director of Acoustic Design in 1999 where he was instrumental in achieving numerous accolades for the brand.

Bill Low created AudioQuest in 1980 it was really just a small variation of the audio activities he had started in 1972. During high school and early college, Bill had struggled to have the best audio system he could. He had built dozens of Heathkit and Dynakit amplifiers, preamps and tuners for classmates. Each US$10 or $15 he earned building kits went to buy records or to upgrade to a better piece of used equipment.
